Diversity and Entrepreneurialism: <i>PN Review</i>, Feminism and the Arts Council of Great Britain, 1973–1990

Abstract This article examines the evolution of PN Review, a leading Manchester-based poetry magazine, in relation to second-wave feminism 1970s and 1980s. Largely funded by Arts Council Great Britain, magazine was initially not welcoming place for female poets contributors. Women’s often disparaged, few women contributed magazine. From early 1980s, however, Review started include more voices—a transition led founding editor Michael Schmidt, who eager forgotten neglected on his list. essay argues that changes public funding, increased market opportunities authors feminist ideas, forced evolve adapt quickly.
